Artist Statement
Birds shaped by water, season, and place have long held my attention. Along the marshes, shorelines, and wooded edges of the Lowcountry, I have learned to slow down and watch—often long before lifting a camera.
Through repeated observation, patterns begin to emerge. With observation comes a sense of predictability in bird behavior—not certainty, but familiarity. My photographs grow from that familiarity, from moments when birds settle, resume their lives, and allow me to be present.
I am drawn to quiet gestures: a pause, a turn of the head, a posture held between movement and stillness. These images are not about pursuit or perfection, but about patience and respect—about honoring habitat, season, and the brief moments when attention is shared.

Patty is a writer, photographer, and birder dedicated to sharing the Lowcountry’s natural wonders. Her work—featured on WHHI TV, Scripps National News, Camera in the Wild, Local Life, and the Bluffton/Hilton Head Sun—blends evocative photography, field-based storytelling, and conservation advocacy.
She is the author of Flight Through the Seasons: Discover Birding and Photography in the Lowcountry of Hilton Head Island, available as an ebook and in print on Amazon.
